Oven Not Heating
Likely causes
- ✓Burned-out bake or broil element (electric ovens)
- ✓Failed igniter not glowing hot enough to open the gas valve
- ✓Faulty temperature sensor giving incorrect readings
- ✓Failed control board
- ✓Tripped thermal fuse or safety cutoff
An oven that won’t heat at all usually means a failed bake element on electric models, or an igniter that isn’t getting hot enough to trigger the gas valve on gas models. A visibly glowing-but-weak igniter is a strong sign it needs replacement even if it eventually lights.
If the oven heats but the temperature is inaccurate, a faulty temperature sensor is the more likely cause — this is a common issue that’s often mistaken for a bigger problem. We test elements, igniters, and sensors directly rather than replacing the control board first, since board failures are less common than they’re often assumed to be.
This is one of the issues covered under our Oven & Range Repair service.
