Microwave Not Heating
Likely causes
- ✓Failed magnetron
- ✓Blown high-voltage diode
- ✓Faulty door interlock switch cutting power to the magnetron
- ✓Failing high-voltage capacitor
- ✓Worn or damaged waveguide cover
A microwave that runs — turntable spinning, display lit — but doesn’t heat food almost always has a problem in the high-voltage circuit that powers the magnetron. A blown high-voltage diode is one of the most common causes, followed by a failed magnetron itself.
Because these components carry lethal voltage even when unplugged, this isn’t a repair to attempt at home. Our technicians safely discharge the high-voltage capacitor before testing, then isolate whether the magnetron, diode, or a faulty door interlock switch is the actual cause.
This is one of the issues covered under our Microwave Repair service.
