Dryer Not Heating
Likely causes
- ✓Burned-out heating element (electric dryers)
- ✓Blown thermal fuse from restricted airflow
- ✓Failed igniter or gas valve solenoid (gas dryers)
- ✓Clogged vent restricting airflow and tripping safety cutoffs
- ✓Faulty cycling thermostat
When a dryer tumbles and runs normally but clothes come out cold, the drum motor is fine — the issue is almost always in the heating circuit. On electric dryers, a burned-out heating element is the most common cause. On gas dryers, a failed igniter or gas valve solenoid is more typical.
A blown thermal fuse is worth checking early, since it’s often a symptom of a clogged dryer vent overheating the unit and tripping a safety cutoff — fixing the fuse without clearing the vent just means it’ll happen again. Our technicians check vent airflow as part of every no-heat diagnosis.
